The Las Vegas Raiders dropped their preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals, 27-14, but the team got to see first overall pick Fernando Mendoza in action in an actual NFL game for the first time.

The rookie QB said that his throws were off rhythm. He compared his predictive ability to the nearly flawless drives made by Kirk Cousins. During the game, Mendoza commented on his connection and timing with his receivers:

It wasn’t enough for the team to give Mendoza first-team reps in practice yet, but they have to be feeling good about their investment. Mendoza could make or break John Spytek’s career as a general manager. He’s watching the quarterback very closely, and so far, he’s been really impressed.
