The Missouri Supreme Court will hear appeals seeking to force two measures on November ballots: A referendum vote on the state's redistricted congressional maps and vote on a proposed constitutional amendment that would strengthen initiative petition protections in the state.

The ruling, a win for Republicans, will almost certainly be decided by the Missouri Supreme Court.

The Missouri Supreme Court will hear appeals on two blocked ballot measures on Sept. 2. The court will decide if either goes to the November ballot.

Missouri’s Republican Secretary of State Denny Hoskins said Tuesday that he wouldn’t certify a referendum seeking to undo the state’s new GOP-drawn congressional map, arguing that the effort was unconstitutional.

The Missouri Supreme Court will decide the fate of the state’s gerrymandered congressional map and a campaign to protect direct democracy next month, setting up two major decisions just days before ballots can be finalized.
