OpenAI staff are cashing out millions before the IPO because they're 'burnt out' and 'frustrated'
OpenAI has lost a string of top executives and disbanded its AI safety "preparedness" team this year. Now, with an $852 billion valuation on the line, some employees are cashing out millions in pre-IPO shares.
But OpenAI also reportedly claimed to its investors that growth accelerated after the GPT-5.6 family of models launched publicly last month. Later that same month, OpenAI introduced price cuts for its Luna and Terra models, including a steep 80% cut for Terra.
OpenAI's tender offer has been in the works since the company closed its record-breaking $122 billion funding round in March.
